How I make reality a fantasy; Inspired by Motherhood

Recently I spoke with Eleanor Lim-Midyett about 'The Mother & Project' about how motherhood inspires my work:

Maples has developed an artistic style that blends reality and fantasy, often layering multiple images to create magical, composite portraits.

It was 4 in the morning. The high pitched whining downstairs woke me. With one eye half open, I stumble out of bed when a strange smell hits me.

As I make my way to the kitchen, I see Pete laying on the tile all around him are yellow smears. The foul smell makes me gag and I hold my breath, escorting him outside.

He rarely has any kind of accident in the house, so this is new.

For three days, this is how my day starts: scrubbing the floors and then cleaning the dog. I put him on a diet of rice & beef broth until his bathroom habits return to normal. At 12 he's a senior now and I know hard times lie ahead.

I find this is a perfect example of motherhood

We can't stop time. Life changes rapidly and we never know what shit will consume our day.

Motherhood is messy... no matter how anyone tries to present their lives on social media. Mess after mess. This is how I would describe this season in my life.

Guilt, survival and cleaning up messes I didn't make.
