Little Girls Grow Up: The Senior Portrait Experience

Little Girls Grow Up: The Senior Portrait Experience

It's been several years since I've seen her.

I first met Macy when I photographed her older brother during his senior year at Blue Valley. Back then, Macy and her younger sibling were about my height and still in their early teens. Years later, Macy returned — for her own senior portraits.

The transformation

As she walked into the studio and took her seat, I was struck by the change. The teenage girl had grown into a composed young woman, her long legs crossed in front of her, long blond hair cascading down her back. Is that really you?? I could hardly reconcile the small child from years ago with this poised young woman.

A moment of connection

When Macy stood to greet me, she giggled softly about her height. I reminded her that everyone has unique gifts — reflecting on my own 5'1" stature while admiring her towering presence, with that bittersweet feeling of a "little girl" all grown up.

Senior year happens fast. These portraits are how we hold onto it. Plan your senior session.
